A Parasitic Illness That Hit McDonald's Spreads To Trader Joe's, Kroger, and Walgreens
  • 6 years ago
Getty Walgreens, Trader Joe's and Kroger are the latest stores to be hit by the cyclospora parasite. Products containing romaine lettuce are affected, according to a government warning. The parasite sickened 163 McDonald's customers in 10 states last month. Cyclospora - which is spread to food through contact with human faeces - was found in lettuces from salad supplier Fresh Express. The bug lives for up to 14 days and causes painful vomiting, extreme diarrhea, and weight loss. The government body said that traces of the bug had been found in an array of products at the stores containing tainted romaine lettuce from a single supplier, Fresh Express.
