When 14-year-old Rani Rampal made it to the Indian team during the qualifiers for the 2008 Beijing Olympics nobody knew that a daughter of a cart-puller from Shahbad will be the face of the Indian women hockey one day.

In her decade-long India career, Rani has not only graduate to lead the Indian side, but also helped lift the socioeconomic status of her financially struggling family.

When Rani took up the game, there were days when even getting their daily bread was a struggle for her family. But she never let her family’s financial constraints stop her from chasing her dream. And living in a shanty till last year, she gifted a two story house with all the modern amenities, including modular kitchen, to her parents.

Rani, the only graduate in the family, has given hope to kids in the family who are studying in private schools.
