Former President Barack Obama spoke at a Democratic fundraiser on Thursday.

Politico is reporting on former President Barack Obama's appearance at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser on Thursday.

Without mentioning President Trump by name, the publication notes that Obama told the crowd in California, "you are right to be concerned."
"Do not wait for the perfect message, don't wait to feel a tingle in your spine because you're expecting politicians to be so inspiring and poetic," Obama also said. "Because that's part of what happened in the last election. I heard that too much."
He also reportedly mentioned the Maryland newsroom shooting, adding that the incident might lead to tighter gun control laws.
Although he didn't specifically discuss the issue of immigrant family separations at Thursday's event, Obama posted a Facebook message on the issue last week.
"Are we a nation that accepts the cruelty of ripping children from their parents' arms, or are we a nation that values families, and works to keep them together? Do we look away, or do we choose to see something of ourselves and our children?" Obama wrote.  He went  on to state that "to find a way to welcome the refugee and the immigrant – to be big enough and wise enough to uphold our laws and honor our values at the same time – is part of what makes us American."
