Smoke fills early morning skies over Saddleworth Moor
  • 6 years ago
The Saddleworth Moor fire in Greater Manchester continued to burn into the early hours of Wednesday (June 27), with overnight evacuations being ordered as the flames drew close to residential property.

In video filmed by independent local news reporter Stuart Littleford in the early daylight hours of Wednesday, the fire can be seen "creeping even closer", according to the filmer.

According to local media, residents from at least 30 homes had to flee as authorities reported the fire edging as close as 200 metres from their homes. Fire services said that the dry and extremely hot conditions in the night were fueling the spread of the fire.

The fire has now been declared a major incident.
