Instagram Reaches 1 Billion Monthly Active Users On Wednesday, the company made the announcement after last reporting it had 800 million monthly active users in September 2017. Instagram also rolled out its IGTV app, which is a standalone platform for longer-form videos. IGTV can be accessed through a tab in the regular Instagram app and will automatically play videos from the profiles you follow. Facebook, which owns Instagram, seems to be dwindling in popularity behind its successor. Recent studies found teens are falling out of love with the social-networking site, but it continues to boast some 2.196 billion monthly active users. This is still no match for Instagram, which TechCrunch points out has experienced a 5 percent growth rate each quarter, compared to Facebook’s 3.14 percent growth rate.
