According to a report by Newser, a Texas-born man who prosecutors claim rose to the top ranks of a Mexican drug cartel by using ruthless violence was sentenced on Monday by a federal judge in Atlanta. Edgar Valdez Villarreal was sentenced to 49 years in prison and was ordered to hand over $192 million, which prosecutors claim is just a conservative estimate of the value of the cocaine Valdez smuggled into the United States.
