George H.W. Bush Becomes First President to Turn 94 Bush celebrates his birthday on June 12, just a week after being released from the hospital for a blood infection. The former president has outlived every other U.S. president to date, with Jimmy Carter next in line on Oct. 1. Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan lived until the age of 93. Bush’s wife, former first lady Barbara Bush, died in April at the age of 92. She and Bush had the longest presidential marriage in U.S. history with 73 years spent together. Since the end of his presidency, Bush has remained active in politics and philanthropy. He assisted with relief efforts for Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Ike. Bush was also named a United Nations special envoy in 2005 for his help with aid following an earthquake in Pakistan that claimed almost 75,000 lives.
