A bungling robber tried to smash his way out of a petrol station - after a quick-thinking worker locked him inside.

Screwdriver-wielding Russell Hadley forced BP garage staff to hand over £300 but after smashing his way out of the front door - before being battered with traffic cones by irate customers.

While the 32-year-old was filling a bag with cigarettes, garage attendant Jamie Marks nipped out of the front door and locked him in.

CCTV footage shows hapless Hadley attempting to kick the glass door when he realised it is locked.
