Landlord challenges council over a string of fines for parking on his own 'driveway'

Grandad-of-ten John Houlihan, 47, is refusing to pay six fines and claims he is allowed to park his vehicles outside his home in Blackburn, Lancs., because he owns the land. He said: "The pavement is about 12.34ft wide and I own nine foot of it, from the fence out, but we always park nearer the kerb to allow elderly people to pass by safely. "I call it my driveway because I own it and if I own something I can do what I want with it." He had the £70 fines slapped on his Range Rover, Mercedes Sprinter Van and a BMW X5. Another Mercedes, belonging to his son Chris, 24, was also given a fine.
