People who called 911 as Ellicott City, Maryland, flooded pleaded for help with dispatchers on Sunday, May 27. Howard County police on Tuesday released some of the calls dispatch received as the city’s Main Street area flooded.In the recording, a woman pleads for responders to help a woman who has no second floor to go to. “God, this is worse than the last one,” the caller says, referencing the 2016 flash flood that devastated the area.One woman calls from Tea on the Tiber, where dozens of people were stuck, asking for help. “Please help us,” the caller pleads with the dispatcher. “Are we going to die, ma’am?” “Honey, I’m going to do my best so that doesn’t happen,” the dispatcher says, offering to stay on the line for a few minutes. “We’re coming as fast as we can.”A flash flood rushed through the business district of the city Sunday evening as heavy rain hit the region.Eddison Hermond, a national guard member, was seen helping a woman escape through a window with her cat when he was swept up by the flood, police said.
