Watch Africa’s largest eagle take flight with a monitor lizard in its talons

A martial eagle, the largest of the African eagles, took flight with a monitor lizard in its talons at Kruger National Park in South Africa.

The martial eagle weighs in at almost 14 pounds (or 6.5 kilograms) and has a 6-foot wingspan. These enormous eagles are capable of knocking an adult man off his feet.

“It was during a recent safari in the Kruger National Park that we were fortunate enough to come across one of these beautiful raptors, gracefully sitting up in a tree holding onto a monitor lizard with its massive talons,” the filmer said.

“We stopped and watched the bird sitting majestically on top of the tree while scanning its surroundings,” the filmer continued. “It was not long before the huge eagle took off in flight with the large monitor lizard spectacularly dangling from its feet up in the air.”
