Killed for doing her duty: Woman govt official shot dead by Kasauli hotelier

A 51-year-old woman government official was shot dead by a hotelier in Himachal Pradesh's Kasauli town after she had gone to seal an unauthorised construction on his property on Supreme Court's direction. Shail Bala Sharma, an assistant town planner, was part of the team which was carrying out demolition of illegal structures in 13 hotels and resorts in the town on May 1. The hotelier, Vijay Singh, opened fire following an altercation and Sharma died on the spot after being hit by a bullet.
