White House counselor Kellyanne Conway's husband, George Conway, tweeted a correction to President Trump's Tuesday morning assertion that "Attorney-client privilege is dead!"
George Conway's response was a link to a Department of Justice webpage that outlines what that privilege means in regard to investigations and how it is upheld.
Highlights include, "In order to avoid impinging on valid attorney-client relationships, prosecutors are expected to take the least intrusive approach…unless such efforts could compromise the criminal investigation or prosecution, or could result in the obstruction or destruction of evidence, or would otherwise be ineffective."  The document also notes that "to protect the attorney-client privilege" materials are reviewed by professionals not involved in the investigation to ensure privileged information is neither seen nor taken by investigators. The sharing of that information came the day after the FBI raid targeting Michael Cohen, Trump's personal attorney. Trump has since blasted the bureau, special counsel Robert Mueller, and the U.S. Justice Department.
