Dalit man beaten to death in Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh

A Dalit man was allegedly beaten to death by upper caste men in Kannauj district of Uttar Pradesh. According to the police he was beaten over a land dispute issue. A case has been registered against the suspects. However, there was a brawl between the two parties a few days back but the police failed to take action. The SP in Kannauj, Rathod Kirit, accepted that there had been a failure on their side. He said "I have just found that a fight happened the day before yesterday and the police tried to investigate but they were not at home. I agree that there has been carelessness shown by the police. We will take action against them too." The incident has led to tension in the area. The cases of violence against Dalits have risen in the past few years.
