US Navy Destroys Hostile Small Boat In Live-Fire Exercise

Live-Fire Exercise aboard USS America (LHA-6), in reion to a hostile small boat advance, destroying it with Mk-38 Mod 2 chain-gun and .50 caliber machine gun. The USS Pearl Harbor (LSD-52) and the amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD-22) steam in formation during the exercise, designed to test ship defense capabilities against a small fast-boat attack. More than 1800 sailors and 2600 Marines assigned to the America Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) are currently conducting a Composite Unit Training Exercise (COMPTUEX) off the coast of southern California in preparation for deployment.
