Many are calling out Heineken's new light beer ad as being "racist."
The BBC notes that "the advert, which aired in the USA, New Zealand and Australia, was for a Heineken Light beer which has 99 calories." The spot shows a bartender sliding a Heineken Light down a bar, past a number of black people, and to a light-skinned woman. That is followed by the words, "sometimes lighter is better," showing up on the screen. Chance the Rapper is among those speaking out.
"I think some companies are purposely putting out noticeably racists ads so they can get more views. And that s**t racist/bogus so I guess I shouldn't help by posting about it. But I gotta just say tho. The 'sometimes lighter is better' Hienekin commercial is terribly racist omg," he tweeted on Sunday. Other comments posted to social media include, "Am I the only one that thinks that heineken commercial is racist...," and, "I don't yearn for outrage but the full ad boggled my mind."  Newsweek reports that Heineken has since admitted in a public statement that it "missed the mark."  The company also noted that it is "taking the feedback to heart and will use this to influence future campaigns."
