President Trump on Tuesday slammed the Oscars for poor ratings, blaming the drop on the movie industry's lack of stars. "Lowest rated Oscars in HISTORY," he wrote on Twitter. "Problem is, we don't have Stars anymore - except your President (just kidding, of course)!"  The part about the broadcast viewership being at a record low is demonstrably true. The New York Times reports that overnight ratings showed the 2018 Academy Awards pulled in 26.5 million viewers, which is nearly 20% fewer than last year. It also marks a significant drop from the recent high of 43.7 million, which occurred just four years ago. However, the trend seems to be wider. Both the Super Bowl and the Olympics drew smaller television audiences than they had in previous years.
