The chair of the Republican National Committee said on Wednesday that President Trump simply asked then-acting FBI director Andrew McCabe about his vote in the 2016 election to make conversation.

The chair of the Republican National Committee, or RNC, said on Wednesday that President Trump simply asked then-acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe who he voted for in the 2016 election to make conversation. "I think it's just a conversation," Ronna McDaniel stated during an appearance on CNN's 'New Day.' "I don't think it intends, you know, all of these terrible things that people are trying to put forward."  "This is a president who is just getting to know people and that's part of those conversations," she further commented. Her characterization of the exchange follows a Tuesday Washington Post report on the matter. The publication, based on an inside source, states that McCabe was disturbed by the question, which was posed not long after Trump fired former FBI Director James Comey.  The Post also notes that according to several current and former U.S. officials, McCabe said he didn't cast a vote in that election.
