The U.S. Justice Department has filed suit against Volkswagen over emissions-cheating software the German car manufacture installed in millions of its cars to cheat emission tests.
Volkswagen admitted in September to fitting the cheating software on 11 million of its vehicles worldwide.

The federal lawsuit, on behalf of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), was filed on Monday in Detroit, Michigan.

"The complaint alleges that nearly 600,000 diesel engine vehicles had illegal defeat devices installed that impair their emission control systems and cause emissions to exceed EPA's standards, resulting in harmful air pollution," the complaint said.
