Young cheetah pins down impala in road as mother watches on

This is the moment a young cheetah pins down an impala, while mother watches on nearby.

In video filmed at Kruger National Park on December 26, the impala - a type of antelope found in eastern and southern Africa - makes repeated attempts to escape but is always quickly pinned down by the cheetah.

Eventually, the cheetah grabs the impala by its neck and drags it away to its waiting mother.

The filmer writes: "My brother and I were driving on the main road H1-6 towards Shingwedzi. We saw a herd of impalas grazing and also making warning calls. Suddenly, we saw two cheetahs hunting the impalas but after a few seconds, we lost them.

"After another few seconds, we saw the young cheetah with a young impala right on the main road. We were quite surprised that it really happened right in front of our car. My hands were trembling during the whole act because I was so surprised/excited and the noise of the Impala made me additionally trembling.

"It was hard to see how the cheetah cub takes down the young impala but it was definitely the best sighting ever on a safari."
