Chiang Mai marks new year with flying lantern festival

Thousands of locals and tourists take part in a candle-lit lantern ceremony in Chiang Mai, Thailand, to mark the new year.

Thais and foreigners gathered with a range of different paper lanterns before letting them go into the dark night sky at Thae Pae Gate.

Numerous flights at Chiang Mai International airport were rerouted or rescheduled due to potential danger of lanterns in flight paths, according to the filmer.
