Lanterns light up sky above Thai city of Chiang Mai as Covid-19 ban still grounds foreign tourists
  • 3 years ago
A thousand lanterns brightened up the skies above the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai on October 31, 2020. The display was part of the Yi Peng festival, which takes place on the full moon of the twelfth month of the lunar calendar. More than 1,500 people joined the celebration to mark the end of the rainy season and the start of winter, but coronavirus pandemic travel restrictions kept away overseas tourists usually seen at the event.
