Airport workers asked passengers to leave a terminal at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta after the airport lost power and smoke collected at the end of a terminal on December 17.In other footage, the overhead lights flickered on and off, creating a strobe effect. The uploader said neither escalators nor elevators were working at the airport.Georgia Power said the outage “may have involved a fire which caused extensive damage in a Georgia Power underground electrical facility … The event impacted not only the underground facilities, but also substations serving the Airport and, while the cause is not yet known, Georgia Power’s system responded by isolating areas where equipment wasn’t operating correctly to ensure safety and minimize damage.”The company expected to have power restored to the airport by midnight. The FAA grounded all flights scheduled to arrive to the Atlanta airport, and many major carriers had cancelled their outbound flights as well, local news outlets said.
