Space Needle is an alternative/grunge band from Bucharest, Romania. Their journey starts in the winter of 2013 when Alex Purje, Călina Curticăpean, Nicolae Aramă and Ati de Chile get together in a little rehearsal room, in the dark, moist undergrounds of the capital. Drawn together by the same passion for grunge music, the four started working on their own songs on the spot.
Not long after, they released their first official single “What do You Mean” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJxaDCzp-c8 ). As seen in the video, the four escape from “somewhere” and follow “the map” to their first gig together.
Romania is known around the world for its mysterious legends about vampires. Their second single, “White Cow” released in May 2014, is an important feature on the soundtrack of “Fright Night 2: New Blood” an American horror-comedy with vampires, directed by Eduardo Rodriguez. The plot of the movie takes place in Romania and the video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nL2f6RAX54 ) follows Countess Elisabeth Báthory’s story, pictured by actress Jamie Murray.
As the next winter approaches, so does the first Space Needle, self-titled, album, together with the official video for “Mexico” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiibK8CYBx4 ). Running seems to be a leitmotif for the band. What are they running from? Or where are they running ?
Even though Space Needle’s members are no strangers to the stage, the band is still young and rising. They’ve shared their stories all around Romania in small clubs and on the big stages, opening for Black Label Society or playing alongside a string quartet in a small theatre... and they want to take it further.
