‘Today’ Show Ratings Rose After Matt Lauer’s Departure Since Matt Lauer's exit from 'Today', the show has actually seen it's viewership rise by 14 percent. According to 'Entertainment Weekly,' the 'Today' show averaged 4.9 million viewers since he was fired. Viewership peaked on Wednesday, hitting 5.7 million as viewers tuned in to see the reaction from his former co-hosts. Matt Lauer was fired last Wednesday from the 'Today' show, after multiple women accused him of sexual harassment.
