Spokesman Claims Trump Told Abbas Of Intention To Move Embassy To Jerusalem

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump told Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that he intends to move the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, amid increasing concerns across the Middle East against any unilateral US decisions on the ancient city. If the US were to endorse Israel's claim to all of Jerusalem as its capital would break with longstanding US policy which states that the city's status must be decided by negotiations with the Palestinians. The international community does not recognize Israeli sovereignty over the entire city, and president Abbas has now joined a mounting chorus of voices saying that the U.S. move would unleash turmoil throughout the region.
