People Arrested During Protest Against Australia's Immigration Policy

Multiple arrests were made at the Department of Immigration and Border Protection in Sydney on November 3, as protesters called for a change to Australia’s immigration policy in the wake of the closure of the Manus Island Refugee Processing Centre.While some held signs with slogans such as “Blood on Dutton’s Hands”, others entered the lobby and refused to leave. One protester said they were locked together. “This is to highlight the horrific things that are happening on Manus and Nauru,” the protester said.On November 1, about 600 refugees living at the Manus Island Refugee Processing Centre said they would not leave, digging a well to get water after staff departed.A representative of the Campus Refugee Action Collective Usyd said some of the protesters “were inside the occupation and then moved outside upon police request. Three others stayed inside and were arrested.”This footage shows police escorting some of those people from the building. At time of publication, it was unclear whether any charges were laid.
