About this video:

It’s Day 69 of New Zealand’s Biggest Gap Year where we are challenging ourselves to 365 Days: 365 Activities in New Zealand! Today’s Activity is horse trekking in Manawatu with Makoura Lodge.

Makoura Lodge is an adventure lodge located near Apiti, Manawatu. We’re joining our Manawatu Lodge host for a horse trek at Makoura Lodge taking us over beautiful countryside landscapes and river crossings.

First we meet our horses at Makoura Lodge and give them a brush down before our Makoura Lodge host gives us a quick rundown on how to ride a horse. Then we trek up to a stunning viewpoint overlooking Makoura Lodge and the Ruahine Ranges. Next, we continue over farmland, near lakes and onwards to various river crossings.

After an epic day horse trekking in Manawatu, we end the day in the beautiful Makoura Lodge.

So what do you think of horse trekking in Manawatu? Is horse trekking with Makoura Lodge something you would add to your New Zealand bucket list?
