Drone footage shows Costa Rica’s Turrialba volcano erupting on October 1. Photographer Javier Elizondo Esquivel and his team captured the footage while on a two-day summit to the Turrialba volcano.Esquivel and his crew took almost 12 hours in frigid conditions to walk through the forest to the volcanic mountain, using machetes to clear a path.Esquivel said the conditions were so intense that the team had to camp halfway up the mountain, at 3250 feet. “We made our last ascent to the top at night in order to film the objective [volcano]. The conditions where perfect and it was worth risking my life to share this first ever and unique footage.”A report published by the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica, National University said the volcano saw daily events during September 27 – October 1 and on October 3, generating plumes that rose as high as 1 kilometer above the crater rim.
