Flashback to the previous century when Sachin was still just 15 and hadn’t yet faced a TV camera before. Sure, he was a rising star but he was still a long way off from being the hero who united an entire nation armed with nothing but a cricket bat. The man interviewing Sachin, though, was a familiar face. We’d seen him in the Hindi TV show Zabaan Sambhal Ke, the Mind Your Language rip-off, as a British writer aspiring to learn Hindi though it was for the first time we were watching Tom as an interviewer. As so many of us were to discover, Tom Alter clearly knew a thing or three about cricket.
