'He is from another dimension’ Russell Brand lambasts Jacob Rees-Mogg on Newsnight
RUSSELL Brand has hit out at Jacob Rees-Mogg, saying he is “from another dimension” after the Conservative MP claimed not to have changed a single nappy despite having six children. When asked about whether he himself changes his own baby’s nappy, Mr Brand told BCC Newsnight: “Course I do. What else are you going to do? The bloody smell is unbearable and she is annoying if you do not change her nappy.”Speaking of Mr Rees-Mogg’s reluctance to change nappies, the comedian said: “Well, that’s hardly surprising is it?“He is from another dimension as far as I can work out.“Given his staunch views on gender, it’s peculiar that he seems like a sort of bizarrely castrated by newly-appendaged Margaret Thatcher. He is winky Thatcher.”Mr Brand also admitted on programme that he does not really understand what Brexit means despite the UK voting to leave the European Union last year. Mr Brand’s words come after he last week told the Sunday Times that he did not vote in the EU referendum as he was “on holiday”.When asked on Newsnight if he supports Brexit, Mr Brand said: “To be honest, I source my emotional connection to politics beyond those kind of parameters.“What I am interested in is people having real power and people being able to control their own lives.”However, when pressed further he added: “I think what happened is in the case of both Trump and Brexit that people saw a bright red button that said ‘F off establishment’ and I think they pressed it and I understand why they would. “And like most people I don’t really understand what Brexit really means.”The comedian has maintained a relatively low profile in politics since backing Ed Miliband’s failed bid to become Prime Minister in 2015, after initially saying he would not vote.However, he did endorse Jeremy Corbyn’s bid for Prime Minister before June’s snap general election, claiming: “A Labour government won’t be perfect. It will be operating within a system that opposes its new, manifest agenda to serve the people it will be elected to govern.”He added: “Electing the Tories for another five years, to throw the opportunity for change into the distant indeterminate wasteland of 2022 would be an act of collective self-loathing bordering on mass sadomasochism.
“We must have some faith in humanity, some faith in one another, some hope that we can build a better society together, rather than burrowing downward from the gutter to whatever circle may be propping up hell.”During his interview on Newsnight, Mr Brand also discussed addiction.He said: “What I feel like is that in a way addiction is a good analytical tool, a good way of looking at attachment and dependency.”He added: “For me personally, I have always had a yearning and a longing and I see it in a lot of people and I think we live in a culture that overstimulates this tendency to long because it’s a necessary ingredient for people to consume.”. 00FastNews.
