Mr. Robot Season 3 Interview - Carly Chaikin

This year we come back to the reality of things, which is we destroyed the world, and if we don't do anything about it then we're monsters too.
We really ended season two with Darlene just absolutely hitting rock bottom, to be in the FBI's custody, and then find out that they know everything. She's just stuck between a rock and a hard place, and she has like the world on her shoulders with no guidance, with no idea how to handle this.
I feel like people underestimate the power of wardrobe, season two we had what we called the hamilton jacket, it's very military, sharp, and we had on a lot of jewellery, and the nail polish, and the dark eyes, and this year I don't want any jewellery, I don't want any nail polish, my hair's down all the time and it's just, I don't give a fuck about painting my nails, it's really just stripped down, bare minimum, there's nothing to like mask any more, it's like all hope is lost.
So my favourite things about Darlene are all things that have now become compromised about her or aren't true any more, where I want to say her loyalty, but we see her loyalty being wavered this year, her tenacity, but we see her like hit a wall, her fearlessness, but now she's like stuck in a corner scared out of her mind, and that I think what's sad, is that all these things that you love about someone and makes them them is gone.
Sam directing every episode is an absolute godsend, it's crazy telling a story like this when we don't know half of what's going on, so just having somebody there that, he's like the dictionary, and because he has all the answers and we're all like sitting here in the dark. One of the most important things with a Director is having someone that you trust, he really helps us create these multidimensional characters, this is definitely a journey that would be impossible to go on without him.
It's really crazy how the people say like life imitates art, and vice versa, and you're like, oh they're, that's true, you know, our show is like, feels like so congruent, like the world and everything that's been happening.
I think fans are gonna react very well to this season, with the excitement of the story, and the plot, and fans are gonna have a lot of fun watching this, and getting back on the roller-coaster with us.
