Protesters in NYC's Union Square Gather in Solidarity With Charlottesville

Protesters gathered in New York City’s Union Square on Saturday, August 12, in solidarity with victims of the violent protests in Charlottesville, Virginia.Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency after violence erupted between white nationalist ralliers and counter-protesters. At least one person died after a car plowed into crowds, according to authorities. James Alex Fields Jr., 20, of Ohio has been arrested and charged with one count of second degree murder, three counts of malicious wounding and one count of failing to stop at an accident that resulted in a death, Charlottesville City Government reported.In a separate but related incident, a Virginia State Police helicopter crashed while responding to the situation in Charlottesville, killing two personnel.Similar solidarity rallies were also held in Atlanta, Memphis, St. Louis and more.
