A candlelight vigil was held at Lee Park in Charlottesville Virginia on Sunday evening, May 14, to show opposition to a rally by white nationalist angered over plans to remove Confederate statues from the city.Sunday’s event was held just 24 hours after white nationalists staged a rally on Saturday, May 13, in front of the park’s memorial of Confederate military leader Robert E Lee. Saturday’s protest featured groups speaking out against the city’s plans to sell the statue, and The Daily Progress reported that participants held torches and chanted cries of “You will not replace us,” “Russia is our friend,” and “Blood and soil.”Tensions flared at Saturday and Sunday’s demonstrations, with altercations breaking out between rival protesters. On Sunday night, right-wing blogger Jason Kessler was arrested for disorderly conduct along with two others. This footage shows a glimpse of the vigil, where participants are chanting “We must love each other and protect each other.”
