US-Allied Kurdish Forces Fight Street to Street in Raqqa as Gains Reported

Kurdish troops allied with the Syrian Democratic Forces continued their fight against Islamic State in Raqqa, the group’s de facto captial in Syria, on August 10 and 11, as the US military said more than half the city had been recaptured.The Kurdish-speaking fighters in this video are seen giving each other cover as they cross from street to street. A yellow patch with a red star is visible on the uniform of one of the fighters, indicating he is a member of the YPG Kurdish forces allied with the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces.The YPG issued a statement on their Facebook page on August 10 describing ongoing fighting between their forces and the Islamic State in Raqqa. The Syrian Democratic Forces said they killed 12 Islamic State fighters and captured two more in fighting in Raqqa on August 10.Local activists also said 47 people were killed in airstrikes by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces on the city in recent days.
