One of the contestants, Gayathri Raghuram used the word cheri (which mean slum dweller) for a co-contestant, which received a lot of criticism from the viewers. Politician K Krishnaswamy wanted Kamal Haasan to apologize for Gayathri's comment. "We have always raised our voice when derogatory remarks have been uttered against poor and marginalized people. There is no personal grudge against Kamal Haasan. We had given him enough time to apologize," said Krishnaswamy while speaking to India Today TV.Krishnaswamy felt that all this was done to garner more TRP. "The show is not directly telecasted. When it is edited, then they could have easily edited that portion," added Krishnaswamy.Puthiya Tamizhagam has a history of opposing Kamal Haasan. Krishnaswamy had protested when Kamal Haasan had titled his film Sandiyar, which means rowdy. Kamal had to change the title to Virumaandi.Earlier right-wing group Hindu Makkal Katchi had filed a complaint against actor Kamal Haasan for hosting Bigg Boss Tamil. The group also demanded a ban on the show, saying the show is against Tamil culture.
