Nice commemorates first anniversary of Bastille Day attack

Preparations have been underway in Nice to commemorate the first anniversary of the Bastille Day terrorist attack when a truck driver ploughed through crowds of people in the southern French city, killing 86 and injuring 450.
Rehearsals have been taking place for a military parade in a central square, where President Macron is due to lead a ceremony to honour the victims.
Events are taking place all day and include an inter-religious ceremony, a memorial where people can leave messages, and a classical concert – with performances by the Philharmonic Orchestra and French actors who have lived in Nice.
Organisers have also been rehearsing a laser show along the Promenade des Anglais, the seafront boulevard where the atrocity occurred. Eighty-six lights will beam into the sky – one for all those who lost their lives.
Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, the Tunisian-born Frenchman behind the attack, was killed by police; a year on he remains something of a mystery to investigators, who have established no direct link to jihadist groups.
