SOUTH SUMATERA, INDONESIA — In one of the weirdest pairings TomoNews has ever brought to you, a 16-year-old boy has married a woman old enough to be his great grandmother in a ceremony in Indonesia's South Sumartra.

The bizarre marriage is the final act in the story of Selamet Riyadi and his GILFY sweetheart Rohaya. You see the pair almost didnt make it. So passionate and pure is their love that the pair threatened to kill themselves if their families stood in the way.

And stand they did ... for a while! Naturally, relatives were aghast. I mean not only is it plain weird, it's also technically against the law, which says fellas can't tie the knot until 19.

But there's a backstory which helps explain. You see, Selamet's parents are divorced, and when his mom remarried, he decided to leave home.

Then six months ago, he met a kind old lady, who took him in. While staying with her Selamet fell seriously ill with Malaria. But Rohaya as doted on him and nursed him back to health, they developed a strange kind of love which only grew stronger.

Maybe it's the puberty, but Selamet was smitten, and asked for blessings from his girlfriend's older brother.

The wiser older man refused, apparently trying to stop the young buck from making a huge mistake. But Selamet threatened to commit suicide if he or anyone else prevented the marriage.

Rohaya’s brother gave in. Selamet handed over his 15 dollar cash dowry and in a ceremony on July 2, he married his lady.

After vows and official business were done, Selamet and his bride were greeted by villagers and received blessings.

Selamet wives with his new wife Rohaya in her simple house and told Indonesian media he is happy, even though they’re poor.

So, still single? Keep your chin up. You’re soulmate may not even have been born yet!
