MADISON, MAINE — Four people were killed and one was severely wounded in a small town near central Maine on July 5 after a man went on a shooting rampage in Maine.

Police say at around 7:30 a.m., Carroll Tuttle Jr., 51, shot and killed his wife Lori Hayden, 52, and his adult son Dustin, 25, in their family home. The suspect then left the scene momentarily in his pickup truck and shot dead a neighbor in his home, 57-year-old Michael Spaulding. Spaulding’s residence is located only a few yards away from the Tuttle property.

Tuttle reportedly returned to his home, where his wife’s brother-in-law, Harvey Austin, 57, happened to be waiting outside the residence. He too was shot multiple times. Three Somerset County deputies later arrived on scene and fatally shot Tuttle in his driveway.

After enduring multiple gunshot wounds, Austin is reportedly recovering from non-life threatening injuries in the hospital. Police have yet to pinpoint a motive for the triple murder shooting spree, which is being reported as Maine’s most deadly gun-related incident since November 2015.
