Australian PM 'Bemused' As He Receives Trump-Branded Tie From Church

The prime minister of Australia received an unexpected gift Sunday.
According to the BBC, Malcolm Turnbull was “left somewhat bemused after receiving a pink tie emblazoned with the words ‘Donald Trump.’ The official Trump-branded item was presented to Mr Turnbull during a visit to a Coptic Orthodox church in Sydney.”
While the reason behind the church’s gesture is unknown, it calls attention to the rocky relationship the two world leaders have had since Trump took office.
During a phone call in late January, a heated discussion about a refugee agreement between the U.S. and Australia reportedly caused Trump to end the entire conversation early, notes the New York Times.
Trump later tweeted about the issue, writing, “Do you believe it? The Obama Administration agreed to take thousands of illegal immigrants from Australia. Why? I will study this dumb deal!”
While Turnbull reportedly downplayed the phone exchange and denied any rift between the two countries, earlier this month, he was caught mocking Trump at an event in Australia after his off-the-record comments became public.
CNN quotes him as saying, in Trump-like style, “The Donald and I, we are winning and winning in the polls. We are winning so much! We are winning like we have never won before. We are winning in the polls. We are! Not the fake polls. Not the fake polls. They're the ones we're not winning in. We're winning in the real polls.”
After the leak, Turnbull defended his speech by saying, “It's light-hearted, affectionate, good-natured and the butt of my jokes was myself.”
