Paul Scully MP – the first ever half-Burmese British Member of Parliament.

Paul Scully was elected Member of Parliament for Sutton and Cheam in the General Election in May 2015, winning the seat for the Conservative Party from the Liberal Democrats. He serves as Co-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Burma.
Paul is “the first Member of the British Parliament to be of Burmese heritage”. His father left Burma in the 1950s, and the rest of his family after the coup in 1962. Following his election last year Paul said: “I’ve always been very proud of my Burmese heritage”.

He will speak about his family background, how he became an MP, life as an MP in a democratic parliamentary system, and how the British Parliament has been and will continue to support the development of democracy in Burma.
In this interview , Paul is discussing about Myanmar democratic transition in terms of challenges and his view on reconciliation in Myanmar etc.
