A man in Moorhead, Minnesota is accused of inflicting numerous acts of abuse on his 2-month-old daughter, reports Duluth News Tribune.
They allegedly include rubbing hot sauce and cayenne pepper in her eyes, throwing fireworks at her face, and suspending her breathing until the infant turned blue, notes KVLY.
The father, 31-year-old Shawn Michael Foltz, was charged Friday with malicious punishment of a child, two counts of third-degree assault, and neglect of a child.
Authorities discovered the abuse at the end of May when they saw the girl at an area emergency room. She was taken there by her mother and after the infant had spent time at Foltz’ home.
The father had told the mother that the girl’s multiple bruises and marks were the fault of her 3-year-old brother, who had repeatedly hit her with a toy gun, reports WDAY.
Authorities questioned Foltz and, according to court documents, he admitted to the abuse, revealed it had been going on for some time, and said he often spent time at work devising ways to hurt the child.
According to Fox News, "Foltz is being held at Clay County Jail with a $100,000 bond."
