People climb to the top of Mount Everest for a bevy of reasons, but one man’s motivation truly stands out.

People climb to the top of Mount Everest for a bevy of reasons, but one man’s motivation truly stands out.
Ian Toothill, a 47-year-old from Sheffield, England, made the long journey, “to prove anything is possible, no matter what your situation,” reports The Guardian.
In Toothill’s case the ‘situation’ is terminal cancer and the prognosis that he has only months to live, notes the BBC.
Upon making it to the summit on Monday, he quite likely became the first person with such a diagnosis to do so.
The Telegraph notes that he also succeeded in raising tens of thousands of dollars for a U.K. cancer charity.
Prior to conquering the mountain, Toothill said the climb has long been a dream. He further noted, “I…want to inspire anyone living with cancer to go and do that special thing they’ve always wanted to do. Of course, that thing might not be climbing a mountain. It could be finishing that book you’ve always said you would write, learning a new skill, or taking that dream trip.”
