Report: Reince Priebus’ Job Security Comes From Few Wanting His Post

For some time, there have been rumblings about the very fragile state of Reince Priebus’ employment as President Trump’s chief of staff, reports NBC News.
The media outlet notes, "Facing a West Wing in near-constant crisis, and with little progress so far on most of his legislative priorities, President Donald Trump is actively seeking advice about a shakeup that could envelop his chief of staff, Reince Priebus."
According to insiders who spoke with Politico, right now a bulk of Priebus’ job security apparently comes from few wanting his post.
Two names that has been floated as replacement are adviser Gary Cohn and GOP lobbyist David Urban.
According to NBC News, "Urban is perceived as a Trump loyalist who helped deliver Pennsylvania, a crucial prize to the president, on election night. His connections to Capitol Hill could be an asset to a White House hoping to bolster those relationships..."
Regarding Cohn, Politico notes that he, “…along with other outside candidates, is likely to demand assurances from Trump before accepting the chief of staff job. Those assurances would include the promise of real authority to control access to the president and set the policy and messaging agenda for the White House.”
Numerous reports from inside the Trump administration have suggested an atmosphere of chaos and aggression, with top aides pitting against one other in an effort to gain the president’s ear and his favor.
There have also been rumblings that many staffers ignore protocols regarding the chain of information, sidestepping Priebus and approaching the president directly.
Some insiders note that, despite the breakdown in proper channels and general operating procedures, Priebus has far from given in.
Politico writes, “Priebus tries to maintain control of the president’s schedule…He is a near-fixture in the Oval Office…He holds the daily 8 a.m. meeting where he attempts to assert control over the West Wing…”
That dogged determination has not necessarily earned him wide-sweeping favor.
One senior staffer told Politico, “You’d think he’d just…see the writing on the wall and leave. It’s gotten embarrassing.”
