Hillary Clinton is reportedly torn about the recent dismissal of FBI Director James Comey.
According to the New York Times, she still thinks his decision to revisit the investigation into her emails shortly before the presidential election caused her to lose crucial votes in the tight race.
She admitted this during an interview on May 2 when she told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, “I was on the way to winning until the combination of Jim Comey’s letter on October 28 and Russia WikiLeaks raised doubts in the minds of people who were inclined to vote for me but got scared off.”
However, the New York Times also reports that Clinton’s “satisfaction at seeing him lose his job, friends said, is offset by worries that it could derail the F.B.I.’s investigation of ties between the Trump campaign and Russian officials.”
According to the Times piece, "...person who spoke with Clinton after the White House’s announcement said she has a 'mixed mind' about his firing." It goes on to say that "while Clinton believes that Mr. Comey interfered with the election, this person said, 'taking him out of his job at this point only reinforces the point that he was on to something.'”
On Tuesday, the White House press secretary released a statement announcing Comey’s termination “based on the clear recommendations of both Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.”
Rosenstein, who began to oversee Comey since Sessions recused himself from the investigation into Russia, reportedly issued a memo criticizing the FBI director’s approach to Clinton during the review into her emails.
However, Trump admitted in an interview with NBC's Lester Holt, "I was going to fire regardless of recommendation."
