6-year-old girl dies after bouncy castle goes airborne

CALDES DE MALAVELLA, SPAIN — A horrible bouncy castle accident in northeastern Spain has resulted in the death of one child, and injuries to six more.
On May 7 outside the restaurant Mas Oller, the children ages 3 through 11 were hopping around inside the inflatable structure as their parents ate inside.
Investigators say the unlicensed installation was being held down by only two of the six stakes it needed. As the wind picked up, the bouncy castle was swept off the the ground and flew as high as 65 feet up in the air. The children were reportedly thrown from the castle, and all suffered injuries. The structure landed 130 feet away from its initial position.
A 6-year-old girl later died of her injuries, and a 9-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl remain
in hospital with multiple serious injuries. The restaurant owner said the castle had been installed less than two months prior. Speaking on the cause behind the accident, he commented “Perhaps it was a gust of wind.”
No arrests have been made at this point.
