DALLAS — A Dallas man committed suicide after killing his roommate and opening fire on emergency responders, critically injuring at least two people on Monday.

According to the Dallas police department, the suspect Derick Lamont Brown was acting erratically at his home before fatally shooting his 67-year-old roommate in a backroom.

Brown then shot a neighbor who came outside after hearing the previous gunshots. He then opened fire at paramedics responding to the emergency. One of the paramedics was critically wounded.

Brown also opened fire at police officers at the scene, and only retreated to his home after being injured by officers.

A search robot was deployed later to search his home, where it found the suspect and the roommate dead. It is believed that Brown took his own life.

Brown has a criminal record that includes aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was also reportedly the national minister of defense for the New Black Panther Party.
