There has been quite a bit of chatter about White House infighting and which administration higher-ups will be the next to go.
Steve Bannon has been a focus of much of that talk, but, according to President Trump, the chief strategist's job is secure.
In a Monday interview with Bloomberg, the president characterized Bannon as a good guy who has been painted in a bad light.
Trump also described him as “alt-left,” noting Bannon’s actually, “more of a libertarian than anything else.”
As for the talk of battles among the top advisers, Trump acknowledged that there have been some disagreements in the past, but said, “We have a lot of people that are getting along well. It’s coming out better now than it was...And for a while it was a little testy, I guess for some of them, but I said, ‘You’ve got to get your acts together.’"
Notably, in early March, he denied such tensions existed, tweeting, “Don't let the FAKE NEWS tell you that there is big infighting in the Trump Admin. We are getting along great, and getting major things done!”
About a month prior, a political insider told the New York Daily News that, “There’s a real power struggle in Trump’s court and Steve [Bannon] is doing an end run around [Jared] Kushner because he has no experience.”
However, suggesting a warming relationship between the two, Trump said in Monday's interview, "Bannon is a very decent guy who feels very strongly about the country. Likewise, Jared. And they’re getting along fine."
