Over 10,000 people have fallen ill from smoke inhalation in the city of Pekanbaru, Indonesia. Things are so bad that the local municipal government has set up a makeshift ward for sick babies in their city hall. Simply removing the infants from the smoky outdoors and letting them spend a few nights in an environment with purified air usually leads to a quick recovery.
This is the second episode of our documentary series exploring the immeasurable damage caused by Southeast Asia's haze crisis.
