A group of thrill-seeking friends decided to test their strength against Mother Nature by surfing floodwaters raging through Murwillumbah Weir on Thursday, March 30, as authorities issued flood warnings for northern New South Wales. The deluge was brought by a weather front created by ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie after it lashed Queensland’s eastern coast before travelling south.
Some residents in south Murwillumbah were ordered to evacuate as a major flood warning was issued for the Tweed River.
According to the ABC, properties in Lismore and Tweed Heads were also threatened, and people were urged to seek assistance at an evacuation centre. Credit: Sam Berry via Storyful
